Anyone who works with insulating materials knows the problem: itching and skin irritation can make everyday working life noticeably more difficult. But that doesn't have to be the case - skin-friendly insulation is also possible. Current scientific test reports now officially confirm the excellent skin compatibility of our SAGLAN glass wool.
Whether it’s the classic yellow version or the modern brown glass wool with bio-based binding agent, both products have been extensively tested and classified as extremely gentle on the skin. This demonstrates that high-performance insulation and ease of installation are not mutually exclusive. Read this blog post to find out what’s behind the tests and why you don’t have to compromise on health and comfort when it comes to insulation.
Scientifically proven: The EpiDerm™ test
In order to objectively prove the skin compatibility of our products, we have had both versions of SAGLAN glass wool tested by the independent Laboratory LAUS GmbH in accordance with international standards. The EpiDerm™ Reconstructed Human Epidermis test method was used in accordance with OECD guideline 439.
This modern in vitro method uses a three-dimensional model of the human epidermis grown from human keratinocytes. The method simulates the reaction of real skin very precisely and does not require any animal testing. A material is considered to be skin-irritating if the survival capacity of the skin cells falls below 50 percent. The results of our products are well above this threshold.
SAGLAN yellow glass wool: proven quality with high safety
Our proven yellow SAGLAN glass wool consists of 92% glass wool and 8% phenolic resin. In the one-hour stress test, it achieved a relative tissue viability of 116.6%. This value is well above the defined threshold. The yellow SAGLAN glass wool was therefore officially classified as non-irritating to the skin.
This gives processors peace of mind in their day-to-day work. Contact with the material does not cause any chemical skin irritation and ensures a noticeably more comfortable handling on the construction site.
SAGLAN brown glass wool: sustainable and gentle on the skin
Our brown SAGLAN glass wool with bio-based binder has also been extensively tested. It consists of 92 % glass wool and 8 % bio-based binder. The test resulted in a cell viability of 109.9 %.
This means that this version also meets all the requirements of the OECD guideline and is officially considered non-irritating to the skin. If you value sustainability, you don’t have to compromise on skin compatibility.
Greater peace of mind for processors and builders
Thanks to their confirmed non-irritating properties in accordance with OECD 439, SAGLAN insulation materials offer a high degree of safety. While conventional mineral wool is often associated with itching, we deliberately focus on proven quality and transparent verification.
This results in clear advantages for processors:
- Less skin irritation during assembly
- Greater comfort and peace of mind in day-to-day use
- Verifiable quality through independent and GLP-compliant test reports
Conclusion
With our SAGLAN glass wool, you opt for an insulation solution that not only impresses technically, but also protects your health. The official test results confirm that our products are gentle on the skin and safe to use.
