Raw materials with clear requirements

We use phenol-free binders and recycled glass in the manufacture of our products. The binder gives our SAGLAN products the required cohesion. To ensure that the products achieve the desired properties during further processing, these raw materials must also be available in a consistent quality. Even minor variations can affect the production process and the end product.

Our phenol-free raw materials are manufactured by our Swiss suppliers immediately prior to delivery to SAGER. As in everyday life, the same principle applies to raw material deliveries: trust is good, but checks are better. As part of our incoming goods inspection, raw materials are only accepted if the supplier can provide a valid certificate of analysis certifying their suitability for use.

The properties of the raw materials are then subjected to a further check in our own laboratory. Only once this check has also confirmed their suitability are they approved for production. This additional raw material check during glass wool production ensures reliability, as it cross-checks the information from the certificate of analysis against the internal test results. It is this combination of supplier certification and laboratory testing that ensures only approved raw materials enter the production process.

This is contaminated to a certain extent with organic matter and, depending on the season, also contains moisture. The higher these proportions are, the more energy is required during melting. This has a direct impact on energy consumption and, consequently, on the efficiency of the entire manufacturing process. For SAGER, therefore, the assessment of recycled glass is not only a question of quality, but also of sustainability and cost-effectiveness. In our laboratory, every delivery is therefore checked for quality. By carefully blending different quality grades, we are able to achieve a consistently high standard of the raw material used and ensure cost-effective production.
