SAGER cork delivery during the cork insulation period
The history of Sager AG begins with a material that still stands for sustainability and technical performance today: cork. In the 1940s, this natural product laid the foundation for a Swiss family business that has had a lasting impact on the insulation industry and continues to innovate to this day.

A pioneering company with natural roots

In the 1940s, Switzerland was looking for affordable, durable and energy-efficient building materials. Cork, obtained from the bark of the cork oak, offered an ideal answer: high-performance cork insulation. The material is light, elastic, thermally insulating and of completely natural origin. Cork thus became SAGER's first successful product and marked the beginning of a company history spanning more than 75 years.

Why cork is a special raw material

Cork comes from the bark of the cork oak, which grows mainly in the Mediterranean region. The harvest is particularly sustainable because the bark regenerates after peeling and the tree continues to grow. It stores CO₂, remains vital for decades and continues to provide new raw material cycles. For SAGER, this was an early argument for developing building materials that combine ecological responsibility with technical performance.

The cork insulation boards produced in the early years were characterised by good thermal and sound insulation values. In addition, cork was and is naturally moisture-resistant, mould-resistant and regulates the indoor climate. These properties have characterised the company's quality standards to this day: efficient insulation and environmental awareness at the same time.

From natural product to modern insulation diversity

Over time, Sager AG has continuously expanded its product range. In addition to cork insulation, innovative mineral insulation materials, technical insulation solutions and comprehensive system packages were added. Despite this development, the basic idea of the early years remains the same: to produce high-quality insulation materials that combine energy efficiency, sustainability and Swiss precision.

Today, the range includes modern glass wool solutions, system structures for building envelopes and other insulation products for a wide variety of applications.

Today, cork symbolises the company's roots. The material shows how ecological raw materials, modern technology and responsible building can harmonise with each other.

Conclusion

Cork insulation marks the origin of Sager AG and the beginning of a company history based on nature, quality and a spirit of innovation. What began as a small production facility using a sustainable raw material is now a significant contribution to the Swiss insulation industry. Cork remains a part of the company's history and a role model for sustainable construction: natural, resource-saving and efficient.
